Descriptions of those outside the Covenant.
Robert Anderson was hired by Callista to act as her factor in Boston. He was a merchant trader, but, due to a lack of capital, joined Callista's enterprise. Originally Robert was a dockside labourer until he lost his hand in an accident almost ten years ago. Robert still has many contacts on the docks from his early career. Robert foolishly believes that Callista (who saved him from a life of debt) loves him.
A clerk from Paris, who accompanied Master Jean on his travels. Pierre looks older than his 30 years, walks with a pronounced limp, and is often sickly. While he can come across as stern, he is actually quite a friendly fellow, and is always willing to gossip with other educated men.
His trip to England has given Pierre a pronounced aversion to travelling, especially to cold, wet places.
Master Jean's clerk. Jacques is a tall and thin, with stringy blond hair, and perfectly fits the stereotype of a clerk - uncommunicative, reclusive, and obsessive. Like the other clerks, he has taken minor orders, and is planning on entering the priesthood. He believes his administrative skills would be a great asset to the church, and that he would make a fine Bishop one day.
A young clerk from the University of Paris, who accompanies Master Jean on his travels. Luc is a quiet, gentle man, with a deep love of books and learning.
